We chose to raise Cornish Cross broilers for our family. Starting at 2 days old when they arrive, they eat their first meal with us and spend their entire lives on our farm. We never feed our chickens any growth hormones, antibiotics or other medications. Our chicks spend the first 3 weeks in the brooder, growing their feathers and getting big enough for life on the pasture. After their time in the brooder, the young chickens move to the pasture to live their lives out in a Joel Salatin style chicken tractor. The tractor protects them from predators and allows them safe access to new grass daily and bright sunshine. In addition to a grass-based diet, we feed our broilers non-GMO feed from a local farm until processing age of 8 weeks. This method of farming ensures our chickens are happy, loved and appreciated every day on our farm, all the while healing our soil.
